Bibles for Missions

“Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.” Psalms 22:11

What to do with that basement full of old furniture? Turn it into Scripture.

Bibles for Mission Thrift Center is an organization dedicated to providing Bibles around the world. To date, they are succeeding at the rate of 4,600 Scriptures every day that they are open!

Bibles for Missions Thrift Centers, through the efforts of hundreds of dedicated volunteers, funds the Bible League mission to place Scriptures around the world. In 2005, the Bible League provided over 17 million Scriptures to those seeking God's Word—since ministry began, the Bible League has provided God's Word in more than 700 languages in more than 55 countries.

Donated items are received into the thrift center, priced and placed on the sales floor. After expenses, the Mission & Service: Local: Bibles for Missionsprofit from the centers is donated to the Bible League, an organization that manages distribution of New Testaments ($1.50) and entire Bibles ($4.00) to countries chosen by each Thrift Center. Instead of randomly distributing the Bibles, Bible League “strategically places Scriptures through small group Bible studies” ensuring that the Bible is used and studied! Proceeds raised in the Marietta center are directed toward the country of Nigeria.

There are a number of ways to become involved. Consider donation of your household items, clothing, shoes, baby goods, etc. Consider donation of your time as a volunteer. (Hours of operation listed below.) Consider a financial donation to this ministry that can help change the lives of Nigerians who seek to know God’s word.

Bible League

Spreading God’s Word through Evangelism and Discipleship

Rather than randomly distribute Bibles, the Bible League strategically places Scriptures through a program called Project Philip—a proven strategy for evangelism and discipleship. This strategy is based on the story in Acts 8, where Philip explained the Scriptures to a traveling Ethiopian, who then accepted Christ…

“Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked. “How can I,” [the Ethiopian] said, “unless someone explains it to me.” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. Acts 8:30-31

Through Project Philip, Bible League trains Christians from local churches worldwide to lead seekers through a series of Bible studies. In this way, seekers “earn” their own copy of God’s Word. Throughout this process, seekers study God’s Word side by side with local Christians. Their understanding of Scripture increases, their relationship with the local church deepens, and the fellowship they join feeds their new faith.1

Adeola's Story

I came from a prominent Muslim family in Nigeria. I received an excellent education, including university training in the Islamic religion. I went on to be a lecturer and scholar.

During one Muslim fasting period, I dreamed that I saw myself among people clothed in white and shouting, "Hallelujah!" When I told my wife and friends about my dream, they thought I was insane. But when I recounted it to a Christian acquaintance, he told about Jesus. I accepted Him and was discipled in the ways of the Christian faith.

Once my new faith was evident, my wife and children left me. My family disowned me. I lost all entitlements to my wealthy father's estate. I became so poor that I could not afford to feed myself, and I was chased out of the community.

I fled to a church and told my story to the pastor. The church fellowship took me in, and nurtured my faith to maturity. Now I work diligently to tell others about Jesus.

-Adeola, Bible League trained church planter, Nigeria
