For Visitors and Seekers
"In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you." John 14:12
The Father’s house, in this Bible verse, is interpreted to represent a life that never ends. These words are spoken to Jesus’ listeners and they can easily apply to all of us. In the second sentence we read that Jesus’ job, while on Earth, was to prepare a way that man, woman and child can get to the Father’s House. Making that way possible, was his whole purpose in life.
Today, we have a home on Earth. Frequently, it’s a home that is plagued with stress, uncertainty, fear and sadness. Sometimes it’s a home that is, at best, questionable. There are many days that we wonder what it’s all for? who we’re trying to please? or what is the point?
At times, there are days when we long to share our joy, to be congratulated or laugh with a friend. We want to try something new and need encouragement. We have unearthed a discovery and long for affirmation. We have felt something hopeful and we want to know what it is.
First Presbyterian Church is made of many rooms, literally. On Wednesdays, one of our larger rooms is packed with good food, friendship and family. On Sundays we drink coffee together, sort out some of our concerns together and celebrate the hope that our faith provides. Smaller rooms hold classes larger rooms offer a place to listen to your heart. Many of our rooms hold private conversations; some are filled with large groups.
Inside each is someone just like you. We are a people diverse in our stages of life, our joys and our struggles. Our family members are doing the same things that you would imagine are done in any home: teaching, sharing, eating, laughing, growing, and preparing eagerly for the arrival of our next visitor.
There is a plan. There is hope. There is encouragement.
We don’t claim to have all the answers. We just claim to share in discovering them together.
