Denise grew up in Northeastern Pennsylvania, in a small town nestled between the once burgeoning coal industry and the beautiful farmland of the Lehigh Valley. She was baptized German Lutheran, where her parents were second-generation members. By Denise’s fourth birthday, the entire family was converted to the Presbyterian faith.
Throughout her life, Denise was very active in church. At the ripe old age of 16, Denise was called to serve as a member of the Pastor Nominating Committee (an honor normally reserved for adults). Her service to her home church also included a term on the Session as an Elder. Even at that time, Denise did not realize that her ultimate service would be down a pastoral road.
She attended Gordon-Conwell Seminary, outside of Boston. During those Seminary years, she served for 18 months as a student pastor for a small church in the Poconos and it was in this role that she felt her call to pastoral ministry was confirmed.
After Seminary she had the awesome task of leading five different churches in Pennsylvania. After seven years, Denise felt she needed a respite and took some time away from pastoral care to write Adult Bible studies for Lyman Coleman and Serendipity publishers.
Then, the Lord moved her to Atlanta and Denise began her work in the South on staff at Peachtree Presbyterian Church. There, she served as the Associate Pastor of Adult Discipleship.
Nine years later in the spring of 2004, Denise was called to First Presbyterian Church in Marietta. Today, she serves as Associate Pastor for Pastoral Care. Denise oversees a multitude of programs including, but not limited to, our Stephen, Martha and Shepherding Ministries.
In her spare time Denise enjoys reading and/or an evening out with friends. She also loves to travel.
